Dormer Tools Brazil starts operating in four shifts

(08/03/2008) – During the last twelve months Dormer Tools´ plant, in Interlagos subdistrict, in São Paulo, had it´s productivity capacity duplicated. “We will start operating in four shifts, 365 days a year to attend the cemented carbide demand”, informs Salvador Fogliano, South America Dormer Tools director.

To this production increase, the number of employees was enlarged in 30% – nowadays there are 400 employees. The plant also gained around 80 new equipments. In September, the unit will receive a new oven to coating the cemented carbide rotative tools that will be added to the two tip coating ovens of the plant – one of them is recently installed.

The Brazilian plant was benefited by the closure of an industrial plant in England and had part of it´s production transferred to Brazil. Besides this, Interlagos´ plant was already responsible for the production of MPX cemented carbide drills for multi-application to all the group, from September it starts to be the exclusive furnisher of MCX endmill, also cemented carbide tool, that is about to be released in global marketing.

According to Fogliano, the Brazilian branch passed through a great transforming process in the last four/five years. “In this period we invested to increase the plant´s competitivity and productivity aiming to compensate the exchange variation”, says the director that believes that “only complain about low dollar rate does not change the scenario”. Another expressive change happened in the branch´s products portfolio, that jumped from 3 thousand items in 2006 to 30 thousand items nowadays.

The result is that the turnover has been increasing year-by-year. Fogliano does not divulgate this expansion index but guarantees that “2008 will be even better”. To the director, “2008 might be the year of greatest growth of the Brazilian branch, mainly in the application tools area, more specifically, in cemented carbide and taps”.

In Fogliano opinion, Brazilian market is heated but good part of this year expected growth will happen because of the investments done in the plant and also, in consequence of the worldly global strategy of the company. Among these strategies the director highlights the actuation focus in the specific application, aiming to offer solutions with effective gains in market productivity.
